Typical Requirements

  1. Personal involvement of the franchisee in the day to day operation of the store
  2. Single Unit developers live in the market they are seeking to develop
  3. Multi-unit developers either live in or operate existing businesses in the market they are seeking to develop
  4. The total investment required will vary depending on many factors, including the size of the store, necessary leasehold improvements and equipment requirements, sales levels and inventory requirements
  5. Personal experience, people skills and business acumen are carefully considered of all potential franchisees

A Turn-Key Store Opening

Utilizing our expertise, we provide a turn-key operation including:

  • Store layout and design
  • Supervision of leasehold improvements
  • Ordering and installation of store equipment
  • Ordering of initial inventory, stocking of shelves and direction on how to merchandise products within the store
  • Supervision at time of store take-over

Marketing and Public Relations

In addition to providing a chainwide advertising program, Pet Valu also offers support for individual store marketing initiatives.  Pet Valu participates in consumer-focused trade shows and actively manages public relations. 

Extensive House Brand Program

We have a broad assortment of house brand pet foods, including Performatrin®, Performatrin Ultra®, Health Diet®, Feline Cuisine® and Canine Cuisine® that are available at Pet Valu stores. We also have various lines of cat litter, including: Fresh4Life® and Kitty’s Best clumping and non-clumping clay, Enviro-Litter® pine and Mewsprint® litter. All house brands have an established reputation for quality and value in our markets, and because of this reputation, encourage ongoing customer loyalty.

Store Leasing

We have established a sound reputation and strong relationship with developers and landlords. This provides us with a significant advantage when competing for space in key retail locations.

Training Program

Each new franchisee receives two weeks of training. One week of the training program consists of classroom instruction at our offices. These classroom sessions focus on day-to-day operating procedures, bookkeeping, product knowledge and pet care. The remaining week of the training program consist of hands-on training at an existing Pet Valu corporate store with an experienced corporate manager. Note: Training programs outside of Ontario, Canada may be different.

Ongoing Support from Franchise Business Consultants

Regional franchise business consultants will make periodic visits to your franchised store to provide guidance in operational matters, with an additional focus on supporting and increasing sales. Your assigned franchise business consultant may always be reached by telephone or email to respond to your enquiries between visits.
