More Pet Appreciation Stories
Back in April we asked pet parents to tell us about the time that they helped a pet or a pet helped them for the chance to win some great prizes. Dawn Bergemann won a year of free Performatrin pet food for her dog, Regan. We also introduced you our four runner-ups who were also featured in the June Pet Valu flyer. But, because we love hearing about and sharing stories that celebrate the human-pet bond, here are four more of our favourite short-listed pet appreciation strories:

Buster’s Second Chance
I have been a cat foster mom for the local SPCA now for years, and four weeks ago Buster came to me as a very sick senior. After a trip to the vet, Buster was diagnosed diabetic and requires two insulin shots a day. The shelter deemed Buster unadoptable, but I knew he was just purrrfect. He has retired right here and will receive the love and medical care he needs until his time on this Earth ends. He takes his shots like a trooper and is so thankful to be given a second chance. - Kailie Hicks, Saint John, New Brunswick
Mazie the guiding light
My dog Mazie, a yellow Lab-Golden Retriever cross is my soul-mate and lifelong companion. She helps me every day from when I get up to when I go to bed. Mazie isn't an ordinary dog, she's my guide dog of four years. Mazie keeps me safe, confident, independent and motivated. She can find anything I want such as Tim Hortons, buttons, bus stops, steps and more. She keeps me safe from platform edges, vehicles, running into objects, and more. I'm happy I made the choice to get her, and I wouldn't change it for anything! - Stephannie Leach, Cambridge, Ontario
A lesson in kindness
Last fall there was a rescue from a puppy mill in Quebec, my daughter asked what we could do to help. To show my daughter that one person could make a difference we hatched a plan. We approached one of our local pet stores to be a collection point for donations, and local newspaper for help! Kemptville helped in an incredible way with 10 jeep loads of donations, money and Canadian tire money. What an incredible experience to help and show my daughter that we can make a difference! - Caroline Zipfel, Carleton Place, Ontario
Willy the walkies wonder
My doggie has helped both my husband and I get out and get moving! My hubby is border-line diabetic and walks the waterfront every morning with Willy. I had my knee replaced a couple of years ago, and we go for at least two short walks every day. Willy has actually lost weight as well, as my local Pet Valu suggested the Performatrin Weight Control dog food! So my family has gotten much healthier, thank you! - Patti Kemp, Brockville, Ontario

That was very informative.
